Your New Favorite Song

“Some will love it, some will hate it…we want to freak people out.”

-Andrew VanWyngarden

The song will totally throw off the MGMT “fans” who love their hits: electric feel, kids, time to pretend. This song at times will be way too much for those people. However, the most dedicated MGMT fans who have listened to Metanoia and endured songs such as “kids quartet” from back when they were The Management will enjoy this. This reaffirms the fact that both and Andrew+Ben are these neo-hippie disciples meant to spread awesome music for the masses. The *sing-along* style in the middle makes me excited to see them play festivals and sit in the grass absorbing their incredible energy.

Neon Indian- Sleep Paralysis

Quick! MP3 Battle between Sleep Paralysis vs. Flash Delirium. Who wins? Who cares? This is Neon Indian’s newest song and we like it. Some outerspace synths and soothing vocals create quite an enjoyable song to zone out to.

Gorillaz-Plastic Beach

This weekend, we leave you with the little gem of a song to listen to…. Disclaimer: The New Gorillaz Album, Plastic Beach would best be experienced under the influence of      d r u g s.     This song is so trippy, with MGMT-esque synths and mystical sounds.  The endless chants: “It’s a Casio on a plastic beach/ It’s a Styrofoam deepsea landfill/ It an automated computer speech /It’s a Casio on a plastic beach/ It’s a Casio” I dont know about you, but in our head we envision a casio on a plastic beach, it’s a casio on a plastic beach. Start trippin’ now+ expect us to send you more songs in the upcoming days from this album.

MGMT- Congratulations (live)

Last night, MGMT played a secret show in nyc @ Mercury Lounge under the name The Smirking Worm. The last time we heard this song live was the summer show at Prospect Park, which was unreal. This song, unlike Flash Delirium is appealing to the masses a.k.a radio-friendly. We were going to bring you the regular Congratulations mp3 later in the week, but after the show decided to include this little performance. Enjoy!

MGMT- I Found a Whistle

So this comes off of Congratulations, and it’s a hazy twisted song. Thanks to the new leak, we have been lucky enough to hear everything on the album. Other than “It’s Working” and “Congratulations” this is one of their standout songs. We’re not going to sit here and rip apart their new album on the basis that it lacks those “singles”; we admire the fact that they are staying true to their eccentric selves and not conforming by releasing a cute fuzzy new album. While maybe it isn’t as fun to listen to as Oracular Spectacular, we trust after letting the album soak in after a few weeks, the songs will become ever better. MGMT songs are like wine, better as they age. Enjoy.

MGMT- It’s Working

It’s Working=Distorted vocals+strange instrumentals. MGMT takes us on a weird trip throughout the song…This song is influenced by 60’s psychedelic rock and most likely listened to best under the influence of substances of said decade. Overall one of the best songs on the album, but still a far cry from other non-singles from Oracular Spectacular such as “Weekend Wars” or “Of Birds, Moons and Monsters.”

Jonsi- Time to Pretend (MGMT cover)

After listening to Congratulations a few times and covering a bunch of their new songs on Your New Favorite Song tumblr, we decided to check out this cover of their throwback, “Time to Pretend.” While their new songs are so conceptual and different, this cover makes us miss those lyrically amazing songs such as “Time to Pretend” that inspire beautiful covers such as Jonsi’s. This puts a sad spin on the energetic and rebellious MGMT version. Unlike the hundreds of useless MGMT cover songs, this cover is hauntingly beautiful.

B.O.B-The Kids Don’t Stand a Chance (ft. Janelle Monae)

So here is the formula for bands we just discovered.

1. Create Catchy Song

2. Work the word “kids” somehow into the title

3. Sit back and listen to the remixes explode.

B.O.B’s new album just dropped tuesday, it’s one of the best albums we’ve heard this year. This song is a spin on Vampire Weekend’s “The Kids Dont’ Stand a Chance”…it works…it’s awesome!!!

MGMT-It’s Working (Air Remix)

the first few moments of this song are epic. the rest is a trance -like mix that takes the beauty away from the first song, but is too captivating to dismiss as”just another remix.”

MGMT- Congratulations

Indiana Jones and Andrew VanWyngarden help a dying animal in the hot desert, and  make it out with no sweat stains (what an “indie rock” miracle)…they really are quite the amazing duo.
